Career & Technical Education

Career & Technical Education

Career and Technical Education (CTE) is an essential component of the educational system, preparing learners for life, careers, and college.

Career and Technical Education (CTE) in West Fargo Public Schools provides learners with real-world, hands-on learning that prepares them for life, careers, and college. The district offers comprehensive career pathways—including Agricultural Education, Arts, AV and Technology, Business Education, Family Consumer Sciences, Health Sciences, Information Technology, Technology and Engineering, and more—where academic and technical content are integrated through project-based learning. Learners build essential employability and 21st-century skills such as communication, collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving. Career Advisors, School Counselors, and CTE teachers support learners in developing four-year career plans. Through strong partnerships with local businesses, industry professionals, postsecondary institutions, and fellow districts in the Cass County Career & Technical Education Center (CCCTEC), West Fargo Public Schools expands access to high-quality CTE programs and ensures curriculum aligns with workforce needs, strengthening both learner success and community development.

Explore Career Pathways

The career pathway process allows learners to collaborate and discover who they are, explore their creativity and interests, communicate with others as they plan their pathway, critically think, and prepare and plan for their future.

Career pathways are clusters of careers that share common interests, skills, and strengths. Each pathway outlines the courses that will help students explore and develop the tools necessary for each career cluster. Since there are many roads to success, students are not locked into one pathway. If they change their mind, they can explore another pathway.  Students take interest assessments and review their results with a career advisor and/or school counselor. Course selections will help them choose their pathway. Part-time jobs, job shadowing, and volunteering in real world settings are a good way to help students gain valuable experience and insight into future career choices.

TO IDENTIFY A CAREER PATHWAY

  • Complete career interest assessments and view results at www.ruready.nd.gov.
  • Review course descriptions in the WFPS Course Catalog.
  • Meet with the school counselor and/or career advisor to find the career pathway that most closely matches your interests and skills.
  • Develop and follow your 4-year plan to include required courses and career specific electives to complete your career pathway.
  • Consider exploring activities and courses like career and technical education (CTE), advanced placement (AP), and dual credit (DC) college courses, that are related to the career pathway you choose.
  • The following pathways are available to high school students in West Fargo Public Schools. Not all pathways are available at every high school but students to have the option to enroll in courses in other high school based on their schedule. Students should visit with their family or school counselor regarding transportation.
