Return to Learn Update 24 (January 12)

Update to Elementary Learning Model
Students in grades PK-5 will transition to five days a week of onsite instruction starting Monday, January 25. This decision was confirmed in today's meeting with the district's healthcare partners after a review of positive case and quarantine numbers. The Virtual Program remains available to families that prefer to keep their children offsite.

Current Learning Model for Secondary Students
The district’s 6th grade students transitioned to four days per week of onsite instruction yesterday (Monday, January 11). Wednesdays are still distance learning days. If the data continues to trend favorably, we will bring students in grades 7-12 back the week of January 25. They will also have a four-day onsite schedule, with Wednesdays continuing to be distance learning days. District and building leadership teams are discussing the potential for the transition to five days a week of onsite instruction for students in Grades 6-12. We are hopeful to have a decision, or at least more information about what is being considered, next week.

Weekly Risk Level Status Check
The district’s executive leadership team, School Board President, and lead school nurse continue to meet weekly with representatives from Fargo Cass Public Health and Essentia Health to discuss COVID-19 data and trends specific to Cass County and West Fargo Public Schools. These data sets will help us determine whether any adjustments are warranted to our current learning model. Adjustments to the district’s learning model may occur by classroom, by school, or district-wide dependent on the identification of the transmission of COVID-19 occurring in the school setting and/or the availability of staff. While we remain committed to providing families and staff with as much lead time as possible before a learning model change would occur, we may not be able to provide a two-week notice if we have insufficient staffing to operate onsite instruction and/or our healthcare partners indicate an immediate adjustment is warranted due to school-based transmission.
