Horace High School Back-to-Back State Congress Champions

West Fargo, ND – (November 21, 2023) – Horace High School’s Student Congress returned from the North Dakota High School Activities Association’s State Student Congress with its second state congress championship, and fourth fine art championship since the start of the 2022-23 school year. Horace High School went on to win the North Dakota National Qualifier for Congress for the second year in a row.

Individual State Champions are as follows: Senior Maggie Dick was voted by her peers to act as the Presiding Officer in House 1; Freshman Isabel Flanagan was voted by her peers to act as the Presiding Officer in House IV; Junior Jordan Graves was named House I Champion.

Other placers individuals placing at state: Senate - Nadir Mohamed 4th; House 1 - Veda Voegele 6th; House II - Keagen Kratcha Runner-Up, Ryan Benson 4th, Hannah Stevermer 8th; House III - Britta Soderholm 8th; House IV - Nora Aeilts 3rd; House V - Amour Mach 3rd, Charlotte Lovejoy 4th; House VI Isaak Mohamed Runner-Up, Lucy Scherbenske 3rd.

At the North Dakota National Qualifier for Congress House prelims Nora Aeilts, Keagen Kratcha, and Maggie Dick were elected as presiding officers for their chambers. A record breaking nine of twelve Hawks competing moved on to finals. Maggie Dick went on to be elected as presiding officer for the final session as well.

In Senate, Nadir Mohamed qualified to the National Tournament to be held in June. Veda Voegele placed as second alternate.

In House, Jordan Graves and Keagen Kratcha qualified to the National Tournament to be held in June. Jayla Ridout placed as second alternate and Maggie Dick placed as third alternate.

The team is coached by Nathan Amberg, Cassidy Hughes, and Katie Bolstad.
