Sheyenne Debaters Qualify for Nationals

West Fargo, ND – (February 9th, 2024) – Sheyenne debaters and juniors at Sheyenne High School Reagan Koppelman and Jonah Follingstad competed at the National Speech and Debate Association's North Dakota Roughrider District Tournament and nationally qualified in Public Forum Debate. Both Koppelman and Follingstad will compete at the National Speech and Debate Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa in June and represent Team North Dakota.

Additionally, on top of nationally qualifying, Koppelman and Follingstad won the state title and championship in Public Forum Division 1 Debate at the 2024 North Dakota High School Activities Association's State Debate Tournament held at Davies High School on Saturday, February 3rd. It is the first time in school history that a Public Forum Team has won the Division 1 title for Sheyenne High School.

The West Fargo Sheyenne Debate Team also left the 2024 State Debate Tournament with a 3rd place finish as a team and had the following state placers:

Public Forum Division 1 Debate:
•    1st place and State Champions- Reagan Koppelman and Jonah Follingstad
•    Semi finalists- Hosna Dawlaty and Vidyaa Lav
•    Quarter finalists- Elena Weng and Norah Casas

Lincoln-Douglas Division 1 Debate:
•    Semi finalist- Eli Nyberg

Lincoln-Douglas Division 2 Debate:
•    Semi finalist- Neha Kamalakannan
•    Quarter finalist- EllaNora Hayes
•    Quarter finalist- Kenneth Demchuk
