Sheyenne High School Student Congress Finishes Season as State Runners-Up
West Fargo, ND – (November 20, 2023) – Sheyenne High School’s Student Congress returned from the North Dakota High School Activities Association’s State Student Congress as State Runners-Up.
At the individual level, Junior Hosna Dawlaty was voted by her peers to serve as the Presiding Officer in Senate and Freshman Norah Casas was voted by her peers to serve as the Presiding Officer in House V at the 2023 State Student Congress tournament. Junior Eli Nyberg was named House II Champion and Sophomore Ofure Itua was named the House IV Champion at the 2023 State Student Congress tournament.
Other individual placers were: Junior Reagan Koppelman – 5th Place Senate, Junior Jonah Follingstad – 3rd Place House I, Freshman Abhi Kotala – 3rd Place House II, Sophomore Elena Weng – Runner-Up House III, and Sophomore Jane John – 3rd Place House IV.
Additionally, nine Sheyenne learners competed at the ND Roughrider National Qualifying Congressional Debate Tournament held at the Mandan Baymont Inn and Suites. Junior Reagan Koppelman nationally qualified in the Senate, and Junior Eli Nyberg nationally qualified in the House. Junior Hosna Dawlaty was voted by her peers to serve as the Presiding Officer in the Senate for the opening session. The 2024 National Tournament will be held in Des Moines, IA, in mid-June.
