Four Students Announced as 2022 National Scholastic Art & Writing Award Recipients
West Fargo, ND – (March 28, 2022) – Four students from West Fargo Public Schools joined two others from North Dakota in winning national awards for their creative work in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.
Ava Stockstad, of Sheyenne High School, received a silver medal for her creative writing portfolio titled “To Live a Girl.” Koi Hiller, of Sheyenne High School, received a gold medal in ceramics and the American Visions Award.
Kadi Sacko, of West Fargo High School, received a gold medal in short stories, the Civic Expression Award, and the American Voices Award. Katilyn Carlson, of West Fargo High School, received a silver medal in ceramics.
Presented by the nonprofit organization the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, the 99th Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are the country’s longest-running and most prestigious scholarship and recognition program for creative students in grades 7 – 12. This year, nearly 100,000 teens from across the United States and Canada submitted their best art and writing. More than 100 North Dakota teens received regional honors, including Gold Keys, Silver Keys, Honorable Mentions, American Vision, and American Voices nominations from the local Scholastic Awards Affiliate.
Since the program’s founding in 1923, the Awards have fostered the creativity and talent of millions of students and include a distinguished list of alumni such as Amanda Godman, Tschabalala Self, Stephen King, Kay WalkingStick, Charles White, Joyce Carol Oates, and Andy Warhol, all of whom received recognition in the Awards when they were teens.
All four of students will advance to the national ceremony in New York City on June 9.
