Sheyenne High Mustang Girls Swim and Dive Wins First State Title

West Fargo, ND – (November 28, 2022) – Sheyenne High Mustang Girls' Swim and Dive returned from the NDHSAA Girls' Swimming and Diving State Meet with the first Girls’ Swim and Dive state title in school history. This makes the team only the 2nd team from the Eastern Dakota Conference to win the title with Fargo North having won most recently in 2012. Senior Tierney Howell took the individual championship in both the 50 Yard Freestyle and the 100 Yard Butterfly. Howell was awarded EDC Senior Athlete of the Year, as well as State Senior Athlete of the Year.

“These girls have been working towards winning a State Title and have been in the hunt for the past 3 seasons. Getting closer and closer every year has kept them motivated and ready to go at the beginning of each season.” Says Erich Richardson, Head Swim & Dive Coach. “They put in the work, day in and day out, knowing it wasn't going to come easy. This group of girls have been amazing to coach and they deserve this Championship.” The Mustangs raced to first in the 200 Yard Medley Relay and 400 Yard Freestyle Relay. Additional event results can be viewed on the NDHSAA site via these links: Individual Results and Team Results.

The Mustangs received many individual honors this season as well. Named to the All Conference team were Junior Brooklyn Keney, Sophomore Lauren McDonagh, Senior Madee Shea, Senior Tierney Howell and Senior Breanna Triplett. Howell and McDonah were also named 1st Team All State. Keney and Triplett received 2nd Team All State honors.
