Dr. Leggio Named Assistant Director of Special Education

West Fargo, ND – (June 20th, 2023) – It is with great pleasure that Ms. Rachel Kjonaas, Director of Special Education, announces that Dr. Joseph Leggio, Ph.D., has accepted the position of Assistant Director of Special Education.
 
Dr. Leggio has 29 years of experience in teaching and public education. He has most recently worked as a Due Process Facilitator & Coach for Moorhead Area Public Schools (MAPS). He has served as a member of the MAPS Continuing Education Committee, the Robert Asp Elementary School Building Level Support Team, and was the recipient of the MAPS Teacher of the Year Award for the ‘20 -’21 year. Dr. Leggio holds a Ph.D. from the University of North Dakota in higher education, a master’s degree in special education also from UND, a master’s degree in secondary English education from Louisiana State University, and a bachelor’s degree in English also from LSU.
 
After interviewing and subsequently selecting Dr. Leggio, Ms. Kjonaas stated, "Joe has vast experience in the field of special education. He has a passion for continuous improvement, which involved going back to get his doctorate in higher education and continued reading of best practices in special education. Joe is a lifelong learner. As a special educator, he spent his time working with learners who have learning, emotional, behavioral, and social disabilities, as well as building graduate-level special education coursework for new special educators and working as a due process facilitator and coach. Joe believes that the key to success with our learners, families, and educators is to build strong relationships that focus on positive learner outcomes.”
 
Dr. Leggio will assume his new role on July 1st, 2023.
