Learning Model for High School Students

We are in the planning stages for our second semester high school instructional program. Since WFPS released its Return to Learn plan, our goal has been to return students to fulltime, onsite learning as soon as possible based on data trends, our ability to adhere to multiple safety protocols, the sentiment of our stakeholders (both families and staff), and the guidance from our Return to Learn Advisory Committee. West Fargo Public Schools has been tracking COVID-related absences in both staff and students since the beginning of the year. This data is reviewed each week by the district and health officials. Through intentional planning, our healthcare partners have continued to be supportive of the district offering an onsite educational model. There has also been little to no evidence of in-district transmission of COVID associated with any of the positive staff or student cases.

Our target date for returning our high school students to additional days of onsite instruction on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays is Monday, January 25. This date is also the first day of second semester. Staff will utilize Wednesdays for deep cleaning, providing assignments for students in quarantine, etc. It is critical for families to understand that for this to be a reality, it is going to take the efforts of every member of our community to reduce the transmission of COVID-19 not only in our schools, but in our broader community. Please, wear your masks, keep your distance from others, stay home when you are sick, keep your regular medical appointments and healthcare routines, abide by the quarantine requirement when you’re identified as a close contact, get your flu shot, and limit your participation in large holiday gatherings. Our ability to bring students back onsite on this targeted date (and subsequently keep them onsite) depends on our community’s commitment to these mitigation strategies.
