Professional Development Bonanza

West Fargo, ND – (October 21, 2022) – West Fargo Public Schools held its first Professional Development Bonanza on October 19th at Horace High School. More than 200 staff attended the event which offered 27 presentation options over the five time slots. Attendees were able to choose from a range of topics including benefits education, self-care, mental health in schools, and equity.

“The goal of the Bonanza was to provide our classified staff with an opportunity to have voice and choice in their professional learning,” said Annie Richards, Director of Behavioral Health and Wellness. “Almost all district leaders had a direct role in making the Bonanza happen. From Superintendent Slette’s welcome address to sessions on conflict resolution led by our Director of Accounting, retirement options by our Director of Human Resources, and basics of IEPs by the Director of Special Education, WFPS leadership wrapped around to support and show appreciation for our classified staff.”

Superintendent Slette said: The first annual professional learning bonanza was a huge success! I appreciate our dedicated staff who took the time to participate and learn together! Thank you! I also want to give a shout out to Annie Richards, Brittnee Nikle, Rachel Kjonaas, and Eileen Steward for putting the event together, and to all the presenters for giving their time and talent! I look forward to future events like this that bring people together to learn and enjoy the work we do for all learners of WFPS.

Many community partners contributed to the success of the event by providing speakers for high-quality breakout sessions. Door prizes were donated by Scheels, including yoga mats, Hydro flasks, and workout gear. Lunch options included Bordertown food truck, who donated their food, and Lupe’s Tacos truck. “It is awe-inspiring to see how our community will step up to the plate and help us say “thank you for everything you do” to this incredible group.” says Richards.
