Willow Park Elementary School Recognized as High-Performing
West Fargo Public Schools is happy to announce Willow Park Elementary has been recognized as a High-Performance Title I program by the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction (NDDPI). This award recognizes Title I programs that will serve as a model to highlight “what’s working” for making progress toward North Dakota’s accountability measures by demonstrating growth, closing achievement gaps, and improving graduation rates.

The West Fargo Police Department and West Fargo Public Schools are happy to announce School Resource Officer (SRO) Todd Pearson has been elected as the Region 8 Director encompassing MI, MN, NE, ND, SD, and WI, for a three-year term. SRO Pearson will begin the role in July 2024.

Community High School Counselor Awarded North Dakota Secondary School Counselor of the Year
West Fargo, ND – (February 9th, 2024) – The North Dakota School Counselor Association has selected West Fargo Community High School & Alternative Middle School Counselor Chris Potter as the recipient of the North Dakota Secondary School Counselor of the Year Award. Potter was one of about 20 counselors across the state that were nominated.

Horace High School Back-to-Back State Congress Champions
Horace High School’s Student Congress returned from the North Dakota High School Activities Association’s State Student Congress with its second state congress championship, and fourth fine art championship since the start of the 2022-23 school year. Horace High School went on to win the North Dakota National Qualifier for Congress for the second year in a row.

West Fargo Public Schools is proud to announce that Julianne Greening was named as the Dakota Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Teacher of the Year at the 2023 annual Dakota TESOL conference held in Sioux Falls, SD this year. Dakota TESOL offers this award to an educator who demonstrates excellence in teaching, developing instructional materials or designing novel approaches to teaching English Learners.

Hulbert Aquatic Center To Host USA Swimming Futures Championship
As one of only five facilities selected to host a USA Swimming Futures Championship meet this year, the Hulbert Aquatic Center, in cooperation with the West Fargo Flyers, will host the meet July 26-29th. Around 600 athletes from 39 states will be represented at this event, with a projected economic impact of more than $1,000,000 on the local economy. Tickets are available for purchase at the door.

Liberty Middle Schoolers Named National Finalists
The National Speech and Debate Association’s (NSDA) annual middle school national tournament was held June 11-16 in Phoenix, Arizona. Abhi Kotala was awarded National Runner-Up in Humorous Interpretation, and Norah Casas was awarded National 6th Place in Mixed Extemp Speaking. Eighth graders Norah Casas and Abhi Kotala and seventh grader Avni Banerjee traveled to Phoenix with coach Krista Hulderman to compete at the first in-person NSDA National Middle School Tournament since 2019 due to the pandemic. In 2022, Abhi Kotala competed virtually.
