West Fargo High School
Coach Chad Anderson is completing his 11th year as Head Coach for both Boys' and Girls' Tennis at West Fargo High School. A native of Pierre, South Dakota, Chad played High School Tennis for six years at Varsity Level and was part of the Tennis State Champions for two years. Chad played collegiate level tennis for Northern State University, Division Two NAIA Conference for all four years of his tennis career. As part of the "Wolves", he was able to qualify for the NAIA, Division Two National Tennis Tournament all four years while in College. Chad graduated from Northern State in 1984 with a B.A. in Secondary Education with a Technology Education Major, Phy. Ed., and Coaching Minor.
Prior to taking over the West Fargo Boys' and Girls' Tennis program in 2000, Chad was the Head Boys' and Girls' Basketball Coach for Langford, South Dakota for two years where he compiled 94 wins and 16 losses. Chad also taught and coached in Moorhead, MN, before coming over to West Fargo. He coached 8th Grade Football, Boys' Basketball, and Girls Volleyball for five years. He was also one of the Boys' and Girls' Assistant Tennis Coaches for five years at Moorhead. Chad has been the President of the Moorhead/West Fargo Community Tennis Association of the United State Tennis Association for the past eleven years which helps promote tennis to all ages through community involvement with tennis as a life long activity. During Anderson's tenure, the "Packers" Tennis program has become a contender in both Boys and Girls tennis in the state of North Dakota. When he started eleven years ago, he had around twelve boys and around twelve girls on the team, now he has close to sixty Middle School through Senior High Girls out for the team. In 2006, the Girls' Tennis Team made it to the State Tennis Tournament in Grand Forks for the first time in 25 years. In 2008, the Girls' Tennis Team placed 4th in State and in 2010 the Girls' Tennis team placed 3rd in State. The boys have grown from twelve to around twenty players these past years. In 2005, Boys Tennis finally over came the odds and completed a decisive win over Fargo South with a 6-3 win, which was the first time in 25 years that West Fargo had beaten a Fargo South Boys' Tennis Team. The West Fargo Boys and Girls Tennis Program has a "no cut policy" (everyone makes the team) which is also sponsored and honored by the United States Tennis Association.
Tennis is a life long game that brings out many of the positive characteristics that everyone has, but not always shows. In addition, Chad was honored as the "Girls' EDC Tennis Coach of the Year" in 2002, 2008, and 2010. In 2008, Chad received the Girls' State Tennis Coach of the Year. He was also awarded the "Ward Burton Junior Development Tennis Award for 2004" from the United States Tennis Association Northern Section for developing the junior tennis program in his local area. Chad's family was also "Tennis Family of the Year" for the United States Tennis Association Northern Section in 2005 which includes North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, some of Wisconsin and Canada. Chad and his wife Diana, daughter Beth and son Jordan make their home in West Fargo where they hope to stay for a very long time.
