Attendance = Success

School attendance is critical to academic success. North Dakota families and schools must comply with the State Compulsory Attendance Laws. The West Fargo School District has an attendance policy that encourages students to be in school every day that school is in session. The administration realizes that there are times when it is impossible for a student to attend school. However, we will continue to reinforce the need for regular school attendance in order to insure a child's academic success. School Board Policy 5-2400 states students must not be absent more than 20-days in a school year to receive credit for the year. Exceptions which may be approved include excessive illness substantiated by a statement from a doctor or other special circumstances approved by the principal.

Eastwood School starts at 8:00 AM. The first bell rings at 8:00 AM to let children into the school building. All children must be seated and ready to start school by 8:10 AM. Children not in their classroom at this time are counted tardy by the classroom teacher.

If your child will not be in school, please call Eastwood Attendance Line (356-2030 Ext. 1202 or 1203) between 7:00-8:00 AM and state:

  1. Name of your child
  2. Classroom Teacher
  3. Reason for absence

Unexcused and unverified absences result when a student skips school or if no phone contact has been made between home and school. We will work closely with the school truancy officer and other agencies in the event attendance becomes an issue. If a student has chronic attendance or tardy issues, including unexcused and unverified absences, the attendance will be carefully documented and turned over to the School Attendance Review Board (SARB) for community agency involvement that may result in agency assistance for families, court hearings, or police involvement. The West Fargo Juv. Police Officer is also contacted as needed to assist the school in helping work with families that display chronic attendance issues, and to perform home visits to verify absences. Please refer to the Student/Parent Handbook for further information on attendance procedures.

Let's work together to provide the children of Eastwood a fantastic education. Attendance really does equal academic success!
