Bus Driver

I started driving a school bus in the fall of 1981, and it turned out to be the perfect fit for me. Driving has always been something I enjoy, especially during the winter months, so this job felt like a natural choice. Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of working with some truly wonderful people and meeting all kinds of folks while driving to sporting events throughout the year. What I find most rewarding about my job is the people I work for and the many incredible kids I’ve met along the way. Kevin Heiden, Bus Driver

Bus Driver

I started driving a school bus back in 1977, after a friend encouraged me to give it a try. From the very first ride, I fell in love with the job. Driving a school bus is not only straightforward, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. Every day, I get to interact with children, and over the years, it’s been especially meaningful to reconnect with them as adults. What I find most rewarding about my work is the joy of the kids and the long, lasting connection I’ve had with the school district throughout my career.pAM gROVE, bUS dRIVER

Bus Driver

I began driving a school bus in 1986, and over the years I’ve made countless friendships that continue to this day. It’s truly the best job for anyone who’s retired—it gives you purpose, breaks up the boredom, and creates lifelong connections, both on and off the job. And the pay isn’t bad either! For grandparents, it’s a real treat to drive your own grandkids to their activities while getting paid.

The staff at the transportation department are wonderful about working with everyone’s schedules to keep things running smoothly. I’ve always enjoyed spending time with the kids, and when you get a great group, it’s so much fun. I used to bring treats for my bus kids all the time—it made every route a little brighter.

Bus Paraprofessional

I started with the district back in the fall of 1998. The students I work with range from about three years old up to twenty-one. Over the years, I’ve really come to enjoy the relationships I’ve built — not only with my coworkers but also with the students and their families.

Being a Special Ed paraprofessional has been such a rewarding experience. I’ve had the chance to watch so many of my students grow up and become more independent. Some of them have been with me since preschool, and I’ve had the privilege of seeing them through middle school and even into high school. It’s just amazing to see how far they’ve come and to know I’ve been a small part of their journey.

My job is a nine-month position, but I also have the opportunity to work during the summer if I choose — which is a nice balance.
