Department Overview


    Across the nation, businesses in the food industry are experiencing food shortages, price increases, and limited availability of certain items. School nutrition programs have certainly experienced the effects of the supply chain issues. 

    Food manufacturers have cut production of some food products because of ingredient shortages and labor challenges. Distributors have continued to have a shortage of warehouse workers and truck drivers, making it difficult to supply schools and their other customers with the foods needed. This has resulted in late or cancelled deliveries, and unexpected shortages at the time of delivery. 

    WFPS will continue to deal with these challenges and will make adjustments as needed. Some modifications to school menus may include offering fewer daily choices and making last-minute menu substitutions based on the food products on hand. We are working closely with our distributors to ensure we have adequate amounts of food items and to replace with substitute items as needed. We remain committed to serving healthy, nutritious meals to all students. Breakfast and lunch are provided to all students at no charge this year with a USDA waiver for free meals.

    The WFPS food service department is seeking additional employees to join our fun, hard-working team. We currently have several part-time openings available. Do you know of anyone that might be interested in working on school days (approximately 10:00am – 1:30pm) with weekends, holidays and summers off? Apply now!



    Free meals for all students will continue through the entire 2021-2022 school year. This applies to every student, every day (onsite learning days only). Funds that have been placed in your student’s account will remain their account.  Additional items served in cafeterias, such as second servings and ala carte items, are not included in the free meal waiver and funds are required to purchase these items.

    Students who eat nutritious, balanced diets are better prepared to learn and succeed in school. The Food Service Department at West Fargo Public Schools supports learning by providing access to healthy, affordable meals to students in each school building. Meals are designed to provide variety and assist in developing life-long healthy eating habits.

    All menus meet or exceed USDA guidelines, with age-appropriate meal patterns based on the U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Meals are prepared and served in compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
