What is Facilities Plan 2.0?

  • On September 26, 2023, West Fargo Public Schools’ voters defeated a $147 million referendum request.

    At their regularly scheduled meeting on December 11, 2023, the School Board authorized district administration to engage the community in determining the next steps for addressing our growth. The intent is to reengage the 2023 Long-Range Facility Planning (LRFP) Taskforce membership, invite new voices to the table, and to offer several community-wide forums, all with a focus of: 

    • Reviewing the failed bond referendum package and analyzing feedback from stakeholders.
    • Developing strategies to engage stakeholders in creating solutions that address the rapid growth in the district.
    • Engaging subcommittee members to determine other alternatives to address rapid growth short and long-term.
    • Analyzing data from stakeholders and creating recommendations to address the rapid growth in the district. 

    These efforts are the foundation of Facilities Plan 2.0.

Public Forums

  • The purpose of this round of public forums is to gather feedback on the list of projects brainstormed by the Facilities Plan 2.0 Taskforce for possible inclusion in a future referendum package.

    To encourage as much dialogue as possible, participants will move through a series of small groups, each focused on a set of 1-3 projects. Information on the projects will be shared in the small group before feedback will be solicited both verbally and through an electronic survey.

    THANK YOU to the roughly 200 stakeholders that attended the in-person forums that were held on March 19, March 27, and April 10! Your feedback is being compiled and will be shared with the Facilities Planning 2.0 Taskforce and the School Board. 

    NEW OPPORTUNITY: To ensure every stakeholder that wants to provide feedback on the current project proposals has the opportunity to do so, the information from the in-person forums has been made into a playlist of short videos. Stakeholders can watch these videos at a time and place that works for them and then provide feedback via an electronic form. All feedback gathered through this asynchronous opportunity will also be shared with the Facilities Planning 2.0 Taskforce and the School Board. The feedback form will close on Tuesday, April 30, so the information can be synthesized prior to the May 1 meeting of the Taskforce.   

May 23, 2024 Update

  • On Monday, May 20, the School Board dug into all the feedback collected by this taskforce and through our public forums and asynchronous videos. Over the course of four hours, they had in-depth discussions on each of the projects suggested by the taskforce. At the end of the evening, they requested several additional pieces of information from administration:

    • Updated cost projections for every project from the 2023 referendum
    • Details, including price, on multiple ways to expand space for the Early Childhood Special Education Preschool program
    • Details, including price and scope, of the small group spaces and accessible playground projects

    Administration will begin working on these requests, with the directive to have information for the Board at both the June and July Planning & Development Board committee meetings.

    The second major topic the Board discussed was the timeline for another vote. They were all in agreement that a vote in calendar year 2024 was not going to be feasible, based on the information still needed and the fact that they want another round of stakeholder feedback before finalizing what would be on the ballot.

    The final topic the Board covered was the structure of the ballot question. There was interest from the Board to split the projects into multiple questions, with the caveat that the passage of any subsequent questions was contingent on passage of the question(s) before it. They discussed breaking the projects into academic vs. non-academic, but also by timeline of need (what’s needed within 0-5 years vs 5-10 years).
