Public Records Requests
West Fargo Public Schools operates in accordance with North Dakota’s open records laws, as established by North Dakota Century Code 44-04-18.
District records are open and accessible to the public unless specifically identified as exempt or confidential by state or federal law.
Requesting Public Records
Members of the public may request access to public records maintained by West Fargo Public Schools.
To submit a request:
- Complete the Public Records Request Form or email Heather Leas, Director of Health, Safety, & Public Relations.
- Provide as much detail as possible to help us identify the records you are seeking. You are not required to state a reason for your request.
What to Expect
- The District will respond within a reasonable amount of time, as required by law.
- Certain records may contain information that is confidential or exempt from disclosure. In such cases, information will be redacted or not released as permitted by law.
- Fees may be charged for copies, postage, or for the actual cost of locating and producing records when extensive staff time is required, as permitted by law. Any potential fees will be communicated to the requester prior to completing the request. Fees must be paid prior to the District releasing the records to the requester.
Student Records
Requests for student education records are handled separately in accordance with federal and state privacy laws.
