Attendance Zones
School Attendance Zones
West Fargo Public Schools' policy dictates that each student should attend school in the attendance area within the school district as determined by their address.
Exceptions requested by parents may be granted after consultation between the parents of the student(s) involved and appropriate administrative staff. West Fargo Public Schools reserves the authority to transfer students from the assigned school to a different school when enrollment must be balanced because of classroom space requirements or class size.
Attendance Zone Changes
In a district as dynamic and rapidly growing as West Fargo Public Schools, it is essential to periodically review school attendance zones. These reviews help ensure a balanced distribution of learner enrollment, minimize the effects of shifting demographics, support equitable class and school sizes whenever possible, and allows the district to best utilize all existing spaces before asking our taxpayers to fund additional space.
To guide this process, West Fargo Public Schools utilizes software that calculates learner density by geographic area, in conjunction with the five-year enrollment projection data from demographer RSP & Associates. This data-driven approach allows the district to evaluate boundary adjustments based on actual learner populations, rather than relying on arbitrary estimations.
The goal is to establish attendance boundaries that will effectively serve the greatest number of learners for the longest duration. However, given the district’s continual growth, it is important to acknowledge that no boundary line is ever truly permanent.
