To ensure that all district buildings are equipped with furniture that supports a safe, comfortable, and effective learning environment for learners and teachers, the following guidelines have been established to ensure appropriate furniture, fixtures, and equipment are selected and utilized by all staff.
FURNITURE

- Spaces should be furnished to ensure ease of movement for learners and staff, including those using mobility aids.
- Furniture must be free of sharp edges, loose parts, or materials that could pose a risk to learners or staff.
- Furniture should have a hard, vinyl, or leather surface, to mitigate sanitary concerns.
- Vinyl and leather surfaces must be free of significant tears.
- Fabric-covered furniture may be allowed, only if it is UL listed (fire code) and meets other expectations outlined in this policy.
- Regular inspections should be conducted to ensure that all furniture remains in good condition. Any damaged or worn-out furniture should be repaired or replaced promptly or removed at the direction of school officials.
- All furniture must comply with relevant local, state, and federal regulations, including those related to fire safety, accessibility, and environmental impact.
FIXTURES

-
Stapling and the use of pushpins is allowed without prior approval.
-
Items cannot be hung from the ceiling grid.
-
Exceptions may be made for low voltage lights, through a discussion with the appropriate administrator and adherence to other guidelines outlined in this policy.
EQUIPMENT
- Any appliances that need power must be plugged directly into a wall outlet.
- The use of extension cords is prohibited by fire code.
- Power strips may be utilized, provided they aren’t for appliances.
