FDA-AP: Education of Homeschooled Learners
The West Fargo Public School District acknowledges the right of a parent to provide their own child's education in a home-based setting. The Superintendent will accept as correct the information on the statement of intent filed with the district in accordance with North Dakota law.
Homeschooled learners are eligible to transfer into West Fargo Public schools and/or participate in individual district classes and/or extracurricular activities on the same basis as learners already enrolled.
Transfers
Homeschooled learners transferring into West Fargo Public Schools will be required to produce documentation containing a list of courses taken, grades earned, and the results of standardized achievement tests unless the learner is exempt from such testing under law. Placement will be determined in accordance with district placement standards.
Learners without records or whose records do not indicate proper placement shall be subject to placement testing.
Learners believed to have a disability impairing learning shall be tested and placed in accordance with law and applicable policy.
Diplomas
To be eligible to graduate from West Fargo Public Schools, homeschooled learners must be enrolled in, and successfully complete, their senior year at one of West Fargo’s high schools. Learners are required to earn six credits their senior year, including four credits in the senior level classes in the four core classes (math, science, social studies, and English/language arts).
Any homeschool learner and parent seeking a West Fargo Public School diploma must schedule a meeting with the high school principal in the spring or summer prior to the learner’s senior year.
