DHA-AP: Certification and Continuing Education Requirements
All instructional personnel shall have a valid North Dakota teaching certificate that legally qualifies them for the work to which they are assigned. The certificate must be recorded with the superintendent of the West Fargo Public Schools.
All instructional personnel employed in elementary and secondary schools are expected to keep themselves informed of essential instructional improvement through professional study, group discussion, school visitations, and travel.
A teacher entering the system will be expected to have earned four semester or six quarter hours of credit during the five-year period immediately prior to employment in the district. Teachers in the district must successfully complete at least four semester or six-quarter hours of advanced work in their major or minor fields by the end of each succeeding five-year period of employment. All such credits must be approved by the superintendent in advance and prior to enrollment.
The “five year period” referred to herein shall correspond to the five-year term of the teacher’s teaching certificate issued by the Department of Public Instruction. For those teachers holding a life certificate, it shall mean each five-year term commencing with the last reporting date to the district prior to the 1985-86 school year. For those teachers holding a two-year entrance certificate the first five-year period shall commence upon termination of such entrance certificate.
