ACBAA-AP: Naloxone (Narcan or Equivalent)

The District, committed to enhancing the health and safety of all individuals within the school environment, will acquire and maintain the life-saving measure Naloxone (Narcan or equivalent) at its district office, elementary schools, middle schools, and high schools and cause individuals to be trained to administer Naloxone.  The administration shall develop procedures and protocol for obtaining, storing, and administering Naloxone in compliance with this policy and with the North Dakota Department of Health, and impose any other conditions that are appropriate to ensure the safety and wellbeing of an individual experiencing an opioid overdose.

Nothing in this policy is intended to regulate, restrict, or otherwise deter a law enforcement officer, emergency medical technician, fire company member, licensed medical professional, or other authorized individual from administering his/her own supply of Naloxone when responding in good faith to a suspected drug overdose occurring on District property.

Neither this policy nor the authorization of Naloxone in district facilities shall be deemed to create a duty, guarantee, or obligation to use the Naloxone in the case of an emergency, nor any expectation that Naloxone or an employee trained in the administration of Naloxone will be present and able to administer Naloxone in an emergency, or any expectation that Naloxone will perform properly.
