Math Pathway Protocol

  • The multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) math pathway includes three levels of support: intensive, strategic, and benchmark. All students are screened using STAR assessment and progress is monitored throughout the year. Current students are screened during the winter screening (January - February) each year and students new to the district are screened throughout the academic year (August - May).

Middle school and high school students trending below the 35th percentile are administered additional math assessments to determine placement in one of the following levels of support:

    • Benchmark - Trending between 35th - 99th percentile on STAR
      • Enrolled in core math
    • Strategic - Trending below the 35th percentile on STAR and below proficient on other diagnostic assessments
      • Enrolled in core math and a targeted math intervention
    • Intensive - Trending below the 20th percentile on STAR and significant deficits in math skills
      • Enrolled in alternate core math course
