Swim Tests

-Swim tests consist of swimming a minimum of 25 yards without assistance. All swim tests are conducted and verified by a certified lifeguard.
-Any attendee who does not pass the swim tests will be required to wear a United States Coast Guard-approved lifejacket (provided by the facility, while supplies last) for the duration of their visit. Individuals who are required to wear a lifejacket are prohibited from utilizing the diving boards.
-Hulbert Aquatic Center staff has the right to waive the swim test requirement, revoke swim test results, and/or require any participant to wear a lifejacket at any time.
-Hulbert Aquatic Center staff has the right to require swim tests to be utilized for individuals entering the lesson pool.
Swim Test Directions

Step 1
The lifeguard will instruct a swimmer to jump into the pool, submerge fully, return to the surface, and immediately begin swimming without pushing off the wall.

Step 2
Swim in a horizontal position on top of the water using a forward crawl or breaststroke. The swimmer's arms must achieve full extension on every stroke. The swimmer must also maintain one or both of the strokes for the full 25-yard swim. Pausing is only allowed when the swimmer is rotating or turning to breathe.

Step 3
Exit the pool without assistance using either the wall or pool ladder. If you passed the test, a lifeguard will hand you a GREEN necklace for you to wear while at the facility. The GREEN necklace must be worn around your neck or wrist.
