The project will build Harwood Elementary School an elementary size gymnasium, which will allow for the school to have separate recreation and lunch spaces equal to the district standard offered at all other elementary schools. Additionally, the office and administrative areas will be redesigned to create adequate space and a secured building entrance.  The space that is the current administrative offices will be repurposed into four classrooms, including two dedicated to special education.  A current classroom will be redesigned as a portion of the new administrative offices, staff lounge, and kitchen.  The new gymnasium will be built on the south side of the campus, just off of the current multipurpose room. Much like other elementary schools, Harwood Elementary School will receive additional classroom space and offices for specialty classes like gifted and talented, music, and art.

The total projected cost of the gymnasium addition and renovation of the current administrative spaces is $3.0 million.
