  • PICTURE DAY!

    Mark your calendars because picture day is coming!

    When: Tuesday, Nov. 10 (for M/T group)

               Thursday, Nov. 12 (for Th/F group)

    Virtual students may come either day! 

    There will not be retakes in the building this year. If you needed retakes you would need to go to Scherlings. More information about pictures will be coming home closer to the actual day of pictures.

  • Osgood Families we are off to such a great start to the school year! Thank you so much for working together with us as we have started our year together in our Hybrid model. The students are doing an awesome job wearing their masks, physically distancing and working harder to get smarter. All of us are so glad to be back at school working with the students. 

    The teachers and students are working on how to use their iPads safely and properly. You will soon see your child's iPad coming back and forth to school on the days that they attend. Please practice a routine of making sure your child has their iPad packed and ready each day for school along with any other items such as a water bottle that they might need. Getting that routine established right away will make things a lot easier as the year goes on.

    Once again, I can not express how grateful I am for the grace you have shown as we have been working through these unprecedented times.

  • Through federal education law, parents have the right to request information on the professional qualifications of the teachers and paraprofessionals at our school. If you are interested in learning this information, please contact the school administration office at (701) 356-2190. Upon this request, you will receive a detailed explanation of the licensing, education, and experience of each of our teachers. You will also receive information regarding the names and qualifications of the paraprofessionals at our school(s).

  • Immunizations

    Starting October 1st 2020, per North Dakota State Law, West-Fargo Schools will enforce exclusion for non compliant immunizations. Please make sure your school nurse has a copy of your students up to date immunizations.

     

    North Dakota Century Code 33-06-05-01 requires any child admitted to school be required to receive the immunizations according to the recommended schedule set forth by the state department of health. Any child not adhering to the recommended schedule must provide proof of immunization or a certificate of immunization within 30 days of enrollment or be excluded from school or early childhood facility.

     

    Students who are not vaccinated may be excluded from educational or extracurricular activities if there is a threat to their safety due to an exposure. Additional note, in case of a disease epidemic, inadequately immunized children or children with an exemption form on file would not be able to attend school until there is no longer any danger of further spread of the disease in question.

  • Bus Tags

    The West Fargo Public School district implemented a student bus tracking system, (RFID card program), four years ago. The program is intended to help the district staff account for elementary students as they access our school bus services. The system tracks where, when and which bus a student boards and exits. This valuable information is used to find lost students and gives the district an easily accessible list of students in the event the bus breaks down or is involved in a traffic accident.

     

    Student Expectations: The district expects each student who rides a general education bus on a regular basis to have a RFID card attached to their backpack. The student is expected to scan their RFID card each time they board and exit a bus.

  • Morning Drop Off - If your child is having breakfast you may drop them off no earlier than 7:30 am. There is no supervision before that time unless they attend the morning YMCA program. If they are not having breakfast we ask that you try to drop them off in-between 7:45-8:00 to help with the physically distancing of students. Thank you with your help in this matter.

  • **Pick Up - We will be doing a gradual release of parent pick up this year. Due to the busyness at dismissal time we are asking parents that if you need to pick your child up early please do so by 2:15 so that we can get your child to you before we start our dismissal procedures.   • School starts at 8:00 am

    Students that are tardy to school lose valuable educational and instruction time. Walking in late to class repeatedly can create a disruption to the class and draws unnecessary attention to students. Arriving at school on time and ready to learn is key to the success of all students. We only want what is best for all students and feel powerless to provide them with the education they need and deserve when they are tardy.  As you know, it takes parents, students, and teachers working together to ensure a suitable learning environment for your child.   • Why is SARB/school attendance Important?            

    What is SARB?

    School Attendance Review Board (SARB) is composed of representatives from various youth-serving agencies to help truant or recalcitrant students and their parents or guardians solve attendance problems through the use of available school and community resources.

    What is chronic absenteeism?

    A student is chronically absent if he or she misses school 10 percent of the time or more for any reason.

    Why is school attendance important?

    Research shows school absences can have a lasting impact on learning. One study on third grade reading level found the following:

    • Chronically absent children gained 14 percent fewer literacy skills in kindergarten than those who attended more regularly.
    • For students chronically absent in both kindergarten and first grade, only 17 percent scored proficient.
    • Only 64 percent of third grade students who missed nine days or fewer in both kindergarten and first grade were reading at grade level.
    • Only 43 percent of third graders who missed more than nine days both years were reading at grade level.
    • Only 41 percent of students who were absent 18 or more days in either kindergarten or first grade could read at grade level. (chronic absence)
    • Of the students who missed 18 or more days in consecutive years, only 17 percent were reading at grade level. (chronic absence)

     According to a Utah study

    • On average, being chronically absent in one grade increased the odds of being chronically absent in the next grade by nearly thirteen times.
    • A student who was chronically absent in any year, starting in the 8th grade, was 7.4 times more likely to drop out of school than a student who was not chronically absent during any of those year.
