Since the week of January 23, 2023, West Fargo Public Schools has been forced to cancel multiple bus routes each week. Due to the chronic bus driver shortage, WFPS will unfortunately need to continue cancelling routes each week for the foreseeable future. A schedule of all district bus routes was randomly generated to determine the order in which routes will be cancelled; click HERE to view the schedule.
The official determination of how many and which routes will be cancelled each week will be made and communicated to impacted families and schools no later than 5:00PM every Wednesday.
It is the district’s hope that the driver situation improves; efforts are being made to recruit regular route drivers as well as individuals (including existing coaching staff) interested in driving activity routes. If you or someone you know (including current staff members) is interested in driving a route before school, after school, or for activities, please contact our Director of Transportation, Brad Redmond, to discuss possibilities. There is no simple solution to this problem; it will take all of us to come up with creative solutions and minimize disruptions to our learners’ routines.

Inclement Weather Procedures
Our current instructional models provide the ability for students to learn from home and staff to teach from home when weather conditions prohibit them from getting to school. If school is cancelled due to inclement weather, a schedule of synchronous and asynchronous opportunities, along with the expectations for the day, will be distributed by level.
Please start developing a new habit - bringing your device and other necessary materials home each night. This way, you will have what you need at home if the weather forces you to stay there the next day!

ATTENDANCE
Our school hours are from 8:45am until 3:45pm. We expect students to be in school and on time every day that they are not sick or unable to attend for serious reasons. There are many positive benefits from regular school attendance. If a student is absent from school, we need a parent or guardian to call the school office at (701) 356-2090 before 9:00am. If we have not received a call by that time, we will attempt to call a parent at home or work.
If your student is going to be leaving the school during the day, a parent or guardian must call the school or send a note with your student to give to the office. Your student must check out in the office when they leave and check back in when they return. Parents do not need to come into the school. Students must be responsible for coming to the office without being called at checkout time. We do not like to call students out of classrooms; it is very disruptive to the class.

PICKING UP AND DROPPING OFF STUDENTS
The school parking lot (along 17th Avenue East) has a tendency to become incredibly congested right before the start of the day and again at the end of the school day. Our expectation is that parents will obey the parking signs and abide by the rules of good parking lot etiquette. Traffic needs to be kept moving in the left lane. Parking for five minutes is allowed in the right lane next to the school. At the end of the day when picking up your child, please park in the parking lot. Your cooperation is much needed and appreciated.
The east entrance to the school (off of 9th Street East) is for school bus traffic only between the hours of 8:00am and 4:00pm. Cars should not use this entrance to pick up or drop off students. This is for the safety of the students.

AFTERSCHOOL HOURS
Parents, it is very important that students leave the building and the school grounds at the end of the day if they are not in after school activities and supervised by an adult. Please help us out by seeing that students have rides home lined up.
