Mr. Jordan Aus
Coach Aus is a native of Valley City, ND and is entering his 8th year as a track and field coach at Sheyenne and his 7th year as the boys head coach. Coach Aus has helped lead the Mustangs to EDC team championships in 2021 and 2022, along with a 3rd place team finish at the 2022 State Meet and a 4th place finish at the 2021 State Meet. Aus is a two-time State Coach of the Year, having been selected as the North Dakota Class A Boys Track and Field State Coach of the Year in 2021 and 2022, along with EDC Coach of the Year honors in 2021. Before coming to Sheyenne, Aus was a teacher and coach at Medina Public School in Medina, ND. Aus completed his bachelors degree from Valley City State University, where he was a 4-year letterman in Football and Track and Field. In 2018, he completed his masters degree in educational leadership from Minnesota State University Moorhead.
Aus is active in the North Dakota High School Coaches Association and currently serves as the Class A East Representative for the NDHSCA Boys Track and Field Advisory Committee.
Aus teaches U.S. Government, Economics, and AP Economics at Sheyenne. He is also a varsity assistant football coach at Sheyenne. Aus and his wife, Whitney, have one son, Franklin.

Assistant/Event Coaches
Troy Thorson - Distance
-
Coach Thorson has been coaching distance runners at Sheyenne since 2014. Troy started his coaching career in 2003 at Minot High. He has also coached boys and girls XC in McLaughlin, SD. While at McLaughlin he led the boys teams to a State Class A XC title and was named Region 8 XC Coach of the Year in 2006. Before coming to Sheyenne he was the Head Girls XC Coach at Fargo South where he was the EDC XC Coach of the Year in 2012. Thorson was named Asst. Coach of the Year by the NDHSCA in the spring of 2022 for track. Troy is currently a special education teacher at Sheyenne High School. He is married to Heidi Thorson. They have three boys; Henry, Charlie and Rylan.
Adam Christensen - Pole Vault
- Coach Christensen, "AC", has been coaching the vaulters at Sheyenne since the inception of the program. AC has over 15 years of experience coaching and facilitating the pole vault. In 2022, he coached both the boys and girls Class A pole vault state champions for Sheyenne. In the spring of 2023, AC was named the North Dakota State Assistant Coach of The Year by the NDHSCA.
Josh Karch - Boys Throws/Shotput
- Coach Karch has been coaching the shot put throwers at Sheyenne since 2015. Karch also serves as a varsity football coach at Sheyenne, where he is also a technology coach and science teacher.
Eric Braasch - Throws/Javelin
- Coach Braasch has been coaching the javelin throwers at Sheyenne since 2018. Braasch also serves as an assistant football coach at Sheyenne, where he is a science teacher.
Jared Slinde - Mid-Distance

Coach Slinde began as boys and girls middle distance coach for Sheyenne in 2018 focusing on athletes with specialities ranging from 200m to 800m. He has also served as assistant cross country coach for boys and girls since 2019. Prior to joining WF Sheyenne, Slinde held coaching positions at Velva High School and Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton High School along with working for USA Track & Field from 2011-2013.
Slinde competed as a middle distance runner for North Dakota State University while working to achieve a bachelor's degree in communication with a minor in English writing in 2005 and a master's in sport management in 2007. Slinde works full-time at the Great Plains Food Bank and he and his wife, Mandy, have two children (Brynley and Cade).
Matt Kingland - High Jump
- Coach Kingland has been coaching the high jumpers at Sheyenne since 2022. He arrives to Sheyenne after a collegiate career at UM-Morris. Matt works at Aldeveron in Fargo.
Parker Sander - Boys Horizontal Jumps
- Coach Sander has been coaching the long and triple jumpers at Sheyenne since 2021. Parker also serves as an assistant football coach for Sheyenne. He works at All-Terrain in Fargo.
Jake Copenhaver - Boys Throws/Discus

This is Coach Copenhaver’s first year coaching boys discus at Sheyenne where he also serves as an assistant football coach. Copenhaver is a special education teacher at Freedom Elementary.

Sheyenne Boys Track and Field Letter Requirements
To earn a varsity letter for Boys Track and Field, an athlete must meet one of the following criteria*: Place 1-8 at EDC, qualify for state in any event, compete in 4 consecutive seasons for Sheyenne Track and Field.
*Coach may use discretion to award a letter to athletes in extenuating circumstances that don't meet the above criteria
