College Entrance Exam - ACT Registration
- Some institutions and scholarship applications require an entrance exam for admission or consideration. If seniors are required to take an exam, there are two tests that will usually satisfy this requirement. Most four year colleges in our area use the ACT but will accept the SAT as well.
The ACT Exam can predict how well a student will do in college. The ACT Exam measures skills in English, mathematics, reading, and science reasoning. These areas are tested because they include the major areas of instruction in most high schools and college programs.
It is becoming a common practice for juniors to take the ACT in the spring of their junior year. In order to receive the results in time to meet application deadlines, seniors are encouraged to take the tests early in the school year. Seniors should test no later than February in order to have test scores available for consideration for admission into colleges and universities.
Students planning to test need to apply on-line at www.ACTStudent.org or stop by the counseling office to pick up a registration packet. Registration must be completed approximately one month before each test (mailed or completed on-line). Counselors will be able to help students determine whether or not they need to take or re-take the test.
Listed below are the test dates and registration deadlines for the ACT. The registration fee is $30.00/$44.50 with the Writing Tests for the ACT.
Some colleges and universities require the written portion of the ACT that measures a student’s ability to express ideas effectively. It is best to check at www.ACTStudent.org to see if the college you plan to attend requires the written portion of the exam.
