West Fargo Community High

General Information

West Fargo Community High School is an alternative high school operated by the West Fargo School District. The purpose of the school is to provide an educational alternative to students who have had difficulty learning in the traditional high school setting. Community High School has a maximum enrollment of 60 students at a time, however many more than that are served by the school during the academic year.

The program at West Fargo Community High School is grounded in the belief that students who have dropped out of school, or are at risk of dropping out, can succeed if provided with the following:

  • sufficient time to learn well
  • extensive one-to-one contact with caring adults
  • instructional materials which accommodate individual learning styles and needs
  • opportunities to develop and display proficiency at social, artistic, vocational, technical and academic skills
  • a safe, warm, accepting school environment which fosters a sense of belonging
  • opportunities to practice and develop skills in problem-solving, conflict resolution, decision-making, and self-directed learning
  • remediation in weak basic skills areas
  • opportunities to attain higher levels of personal responsibility, intrinsic motivation and social awareness

Smaller class sizes, student-paced learning, and increased autonomy help students gain confidence and make responsible decisions. Consequently, in addition to providing quality instruction in academic areas, Community High School helps students cross the bridge to adult life.
