Aurora Elementary
Counseling
Greetings!
The students have returned and routines are established; we are back in the groove. Yet another year of learning is ahead of us. Little by little, bit by bit, they will be improving every day. Setting goals, tracking their progress, and celebrating success can motivate your child to succeed. The fourth grade learns the following Optimism Chant-Don't doubt your ability-doubt your strategy-try something different.
The students have hopes, expectations, enthusiasm and some obstacles to overcome. I use a variety of methods to enhance your child's school experience.
I provide presentations to each classroom twice a month. The topics include problem solving, conflict resolution, goal setting, communication skills, careers, appropriate ways to express and identify feelings, study skill strategies, qualities of a friend and more. The skills the students learn will help them be successful with relationships and their work now and in the future.
Short-term individual counseling is available to all students. They may refer themselves or a parent or teacher can ask me to talk to them. Students struggle with various issues-divorce or separation of parents, a move to a new school or neighborhood, teasing, friendship problems, or the death of a relative or pet or concerns or fears about academic performance. It is important for them to have a trusted adult to listen to them and guide them as they sort through their feelings. Sometimes I act as a mediator between students who are in a conflict situation.
Some group guidance experience is available. Groups are designed to give students information and support as they deal with difficult situations. Various groups are formed throughout the year depending on the need.
I also act as a liaison between the school and agencies in the community. I collaborate with the agencies to provide you the services you need.
I am now an advanced trainer in the Nurtured Heart Approach. I have experienced the power positive energy has to transform challenging behaviors. I am truly amazed with the immediate results that begin to appear when little energy is given to the negative and the focus is on what is going right. Relationships are improved, self- esteem grows and people learn to live purposefully.
If your child begins talking about their greatness it is because they are internalizing a key component of the Nurtured Heart Approach.
If you have any questions I encourage you to contact me at the school-356-2130. We can work together to help your child have a successful year.
All Stars' Greatness Shines Brilliantly
