WEST FARGO, ND – (November 17, 2009) –Eastwood Elementary School was recognized as a Gold Level Team Nutrition School in the Healthier US School Challenge at a special school assembly on Tuesday, November 17.
Representatives from the United States Department of Education, the United States Department of Agriculture, and the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction were present at Tuesday’s assembly.
Cynthia Long, Director of the USDA’s Child Nutrition Division, applauded Eastwood Elementary School for taking a leadership role in helping students learn to make healthy eating and active lifestyle choices.
The Challenge is a voluntary school nutrition and wellness initiative established by the USDA Food and Nutrition Service for schools that participate in the National School Lunch Program. The goal of the Challenge is to improve the health of the nation’s children by promoting healthier school environments.
